Loved this — especially the mix of ancient Ur and modern platform mechanics. There’s something delightful about tracing Facebook Marketplace back to 3000 BC.

You lay out the structure of successful marketplaces so clearly — trust, liquidity, all the invisible systems that make participation feel natural. It got me thinking about the psychological scaffolding underneath those systems: things like perceived fairness, scarcity cues, and signaling. Sometimes it feels like a behavioral economics experiment with really good UX.

I write a series called Explaining X that looks at how people make sense of complex systems (or don’t). This sparked a lot of ideas. Would love to compare notes sometime if that’s ever of interest.
