Re: emojis -- imo they're unnecessary in this type of writing because I sense it's more important to be serious than whimsical. They're great at attracting attention though and helping to communicate when you're short on words, in headlines and subject lines, for instance.
Going to against the grain and say, yes to emojis! I haven't seen many instances in which they detract and can be a small, whimsical touch :)
