This was a great post. I especially appreciated the honesty about not always feeling motivated to continue to climb the career ladder, and that it is totally OK to be in a season of life where you might plateau for a little while. I feel like there's constant pressure to always feel super motivated as a mom AND as a woman pursuing a career, and then you feel guilty about not feeling like you can do it all. Thanks for your great content on balancing family and career.
The mom guilt is real! Coming to terms with the fact I wanted to take time off to be with my kids when they were younger, and that was ok and not something to feel embarassed or ashamed of, was important for me; hearing that I'm not alone in that really helps. I also want to show my kids that they can have a fulfilling life, with a career, that includes family time, so that time apart (and dealing with the sadness that comes when they say things like "why are you going away again mom, you went away last week!") is actually part of what I can teach them - and we make up for it plenty when I am home (which is actually the majority of the time). Getting the right balance is the trick!
Hi Deb - Did you ever feel like the things you wanted for yourself and your family (partner and kids) put you at odds with your parents and their worldviews? How do you balancing your interests versus wanting to keep them happy?
I enjoyed this so much, Deb! Highlighted and shared a few quotes because it's just that good! Thanks for sharing!
