Thank you for sharing, esp the personal stories. The reframing of ‘I have more to gain and give by being fearless’ is timeless.

If there is one thing I learned from my parents, it is to be 'fearless'. Thanks for sharing your perspective. Very timely!

Thanks for sharing and resonate deeply with me.

On “ask yourself what I have to lose”, a lot and that’s my biggest fear, e.g. immigration status, career that I have spent 10 yr to build, people/team trust me, and more importantly ‘’my identity” - who I am, what’s my worth, what I want to achieve. Every single day is constant struggle. So I keep my head down, keep working and improving, pretending the question is not there.

I still need to work through this on my own. But glad to see I am not alone and it is common among us.

Deb, a truly wonderful piece! Everything you wrote here resonated with me and I couldn't agree more. There are times when it is hard to not get bogged down by fear -- a failed project, a bad performance review, a sloppy launch, etc. Fear will make its appearance in the form of "I told you so" often during the journey. Fear of failure is probably what makes most of us hold ourselves back. Failure is often very hurtful and can set you back in your career but you'll never know unless you tried it. Being fearless implies that you've learnt how to make your failures into learning opportunities b'coz there can be no growth without failure.

Hi Deb: I have been thinking about responding to this post for quite some time. July 1 was the day for me when I was going to tell my manager that I was going to quit. No specific reason, not to take another role, but leave to take ~5-6 months break & think through my next steps. I wanted to free myself from any situation that was holding me back & think through my next steps without any limitations. That morning , my heart was racing a bit and first thing came to my mind , wish Deb has a post about being fearlessness. And within an hour of that thought, I saw this post from you with topic Fearless: Free yourself from what’s holding you back!!!

Isn’t it amazing? It was as if universe was aligning to tell me that yes, my decision was right:)

Thanks as always!

I can't agree more, Deb. I realized that fear is the boundary of how far I can go when I was doing startup. Then when I was considering leaving my last job, I started that F it mode and let go of my people pleasing habit. I did what I think should be done, and spoke up. Ironically when I think I did not care I got great performance result. Now I am starting a new job in a new company, I find it intimidating and so hard to let go of that fear and self consciousness. I guess I need to find a way to get it back. Please keep sharing your new job experience Deb, it is so inspiring.
