Hi Deb, thank you for this post! If I tried a stretch role, failed the first time but learned a lot, what's your advice of trying it again the second time, while I might have a job security risk?
As we try to explore different roles until we find our 'sweet spot', how can we manage the stress which comes with trying to deliver value in a new role?
I personally hate hiking. I am allergic to the outdoors. But hiking exercises different muscles, helps me learn to balance (mine is terrible), and forces me to get out of my comfort zone. What I have learned is that part of the journey is that discomfort helps drive growth. Taking one something new means you can learn something new, even if it feels hard and painful. You are getting more data and information which will help you shape what you do want.

Been following your writing for some time now — thanks for taking the time to write this newsletter!
This treadmill vs trail analogy reminds me of the difference between working in your zone of excellence (high competency but meh passion) and your zone of genius. https://twitter.com/SahilBloom/status/1454505435159883776?s=20
I love this concept of "zone of genius". Thanks for sharing.
Thank You for sharing this Deb!
