We have a simple rule - If we haven’t used an old stuff for last 3-5 years, we may not use it in the future. That will be marked for donating to Goodwill. This helped us to get rid of unused stuff which can be useful to others.

Vaguely uncertain why I'm not right now though.
There's something distinctly human about latching on to memories. We latch on to loss because it's human to feel the pain of losing some(thing/one).
And while there's ultimately always a balance between healthy/unhealthy, everyone will have a different one:)
