Great post Deb! I always appreciate your unique insights and the time you gave me career advice at FB. I've since shared your words of wisdom with many friends and mentees. I just recommended Perspectives on my Substack and hope my readers will love your work as much as I do!
Thanks Deb for sharing such personal stories about you and your family's medical struggles. Often in American culture we keep these private, but I believe that by sharing our struggles, we can get more perspectives and give each other mutual support.
I wish more people spoke up about the challenges they face so we can face them together. Interestingly, many years later, I met an incredible founder, tech leader, and mother, who had the same exact thing happen with her son that I had with Bethany. She struggled to get his diagnosed, wondered what was wrong with him, and was told it was nothing. She later figured it out too. We wondered how many parents and kids had to go through this. It can't be that uncommon, but I only ever met her in all my years since.
