Great news - I am so happy to know your results, your posts are so personable even though we have not met in person. Thank you for sharing and inspiring! Wish you speedy recovery and wish you well!
First, I am glad to read that you did not draw the cancer card again, and that your surgery went well.
Second, your posts have been really meaningful to me, because I have a similar mindset as you. I also reach for numbers and statistics, but definitely for the rest of my close family and friends, they are all different in terms of processing information. So thanks for the reminder that we are all different, and have to meet others where they are.
Thank you for this thoughtful essay at such a stressful time - I’m so glad the pathology was endometriosis! This essay helped me understand my own optimist life partner better and will maybe help me not get so frustrated. His mode of reassurance is also to state repeatedly “it will all be fine” which is not so helpful for me, more of a realist. It also helps me think about my work and being a parent - such a good reminder of how we all see the world as we are, rather than as it is. I hope your recovery from surgery goes well.
We each see the world through a different lens—something I realize the most when simple conversations with teenagers end in total misunderstanding on both sides. I am absolutely delighted for your positive result. Wishing you continued good health!
Thank you for opnely sharing this personal/vulnerable situation and happy for you/your family on the news. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Also relatable on how each person views/hears various perspectives of the good, bad, or ugly.
So relieved to hear this outcome, Deb. Thank you for writing this so openly.
Your framing of how each of us filters fear through our own lens really resonates. I had a similar experience in my own family last year, watching my mom, dad, and siblings each process the same information so differently, and it never occurred to me to name it the way you just did. It explains so much about why reassurance can land as the opposite of what we intend.
And good point with perspective and emiter/receptor in any conversation.
Somewhat related, a few years ago I was leading multiple cross-functional teams (engineers, UX/UI, Q&A, POs). I was trying to be flexible, see everyone's strengths (and weaknesses) and help them each while also helping the company. I had different approaches, yet someone - very young, barely mid-20s gave me the feedback that I have to have more leadership stiles, a different one for each person. I was quite puzzled, and I think indeed 30+ styles was a bit too much, but the person had a point :)
So glad to hear this outcome from the colonoscopy, and relieved for you and your family. Thank you for speaking so candidly as you go through these grueling experiences. Sending positive thoughts for health ahead.
As someone who loves reading your newsletter, i felt a bit low after reading your previous post and wished that it wasn’t true. Feeling so glad that it turned out that way finally and sending my wishes for a speedy mental recovery :)

Where there is hope, there is faith.
Where there is faith, miracles happen.
