Great lessons! I remember one of my former bosses created a list of everything she would do to get promoted, and she shared it with her boss’s boss. And, she got that promotion. Then she shared the lesson with me.
Whenever I meet with a prospective client, I always ask the question: “What does success look like to you if we were to work together?” I ask this question to ensure we are aligned because everything is so much easier when we have the same goals.
This hit home for me! I grew up in a very volatile household, which discouraged any sort of boundary-setting or healthy conflict resolution. As an adult, those factors have made it harder for me to seek clarity because I learned early on that I had to accept ambiguity in relationships. To seek clarity in my family would have been seen as a personal attack or as being ungrateful. This article gave me some actionable steps I can use in future, so thank you!

I love that she shared her lessons with you and paid it forward.
Yes, she was a great boss who gave me honest feedback.
Thanks for sharing all of your career wisdom!
Good advice as always. I put it into our newsletter.

I think we allow ambiguity to live on in our relationships because of the cost of clarity. But we don't realize that ambiguity has its costs too.
This piece resonate deeply with me.
I also recently had the feeling of gaining a significantly higher level of clarity - just after I had to flee my home country with my family.
That clarity is hard earned and hard won. I hope your family is safe and able to be together this holiday season.
