Really happy that your Ancestry journey got you forward on your journey to more joy. And I appreciate the "solve for joy" concept. I fit it, but explicit is always better than implicit!

I feel that many of the symptoms felt by those seeking joy still are byproducts of upbringing. Speaking as a child of Asian immigrants, the fear of failure or financial ruin, doing things out of external obligation to others (parents, managers, etc), or lacking introspection in who you are and what you do well or what you want to do, are huge hurdles to overcome in this journey of growth. What kind of moments or lessons helped you along the way, if you had to outgrow those things too? I'd imagine the journey leading up to being an exec at FB included many growth chapters as well.

I've read this article now multiple times and definitely it inspires me to put things into "perspective". While I know the goal I've been trying to chase, it's making me feel horrible. At times I do wonder if it's the discomfort due to working in an unknown area or I'm in genuine disinterest. Hopefully, one day I'm able to find this joy and definitely kill struggles with kindness. Always grateful for your articles. They're true inspirations

Deb, your article always inspires me. Also a firm alum, I am in the middle of figuring out where to go next. One thing that strikes me recently as well is how much I crave for joy. For me, it's about being inspired and being challenged. Once I thought about adapting myself to the current environment to get a sense of stability. It's more about doing and less about learning. But I can't force myself to be inspired. The fear of being stuck makes me feel restless. And I don't feel that i am being the best of myself. Thank you for this great article. I will also start on the journey to find my joy and passion back!
